What Happened in 2010:
There was a great feeling at fieldays. Overall it felt that it had gained some momentum on last year, and this was born out by visitor numbers with more than 122,000 through the Mystery Creek gates during the four day event. NAIT (National Animal Identification & Tracing), which will be compulsory for all cattle next October, was widely discussed amongst farmers throughout the fieldays. Richard Loe chaired a PGG Wrightson hosted panel discussion on the advantages vs. the cost of NAIT. The discussion was lively and highly interactive with good, positive feedback from the expert panellists. The observation over the four days was that there is a high level of acceptance of NAIT in general. There were good level of enquires for weighing systems and live export while Agonline was another good point of interest for farmers in search of alternate methods of selling livestock. The gate hanging competition was a real draw card again, while the annual IHC Auction raised in the vicinity of $ 5,000 with strong support from regular attendees and advocates of the PGG Wrightson IHC Rural Scheme. Once again we held the young auctioneers competition with several rural schools entering – creating a great competitive environment!
